Attention! The EES system is already in operation.
Full implementation across all Schengen Area countries took place on April 10, 2026. The system had been gradually introduced starting from October 12, 2025. Let’s take a closer look at what this system is and what will change for passengers. The EES (Entry/Exit System) is an electronic system for registering the entry and exit of third-country nationals traveling to European Union countries for short-term stays. This system replaces passport stamping with electronic registration of passenger data when crossing the external borders of the Schengen Area. The system automatically records: - the date and place of entry into an EU country; - the date and place of exit; - the duration of the authorized stay; - cases of exceeding the permitted period of stay. Who is the system intended for? EES applies to nationals of countries that are not members of the EU, including passengers traveling visa-free or on a short-term visa. What will change for passengers? During border control, the following procedures may be carried out: - scanning of the passport; - facial photograph capture; - fingerprint collection (at first entry or upon request of border authorities); - verification of data in a unified European database. Important! Due to the implementation of the new system, border control processing times may increase, especially during the first months of EES operation and during periods of high passenger traffic. We recommend: 1. Arriving at the departure point or border crossing well in advance. 2. Checking the validity of your passport. 3. Carrying documents confirming the purpose of travel, accommodation bookings, tickets, and financial means (if required). 4. Following the instructions of carrier staff and border authorities. 5. Allowing for possible delays when planning connections and onward travel. Please note! The implementation of the EES system is an EU-wide requirement and does not depend on the carrier in any way. We recommend planning your trip in advance and being understanding of possible delays during border control. Thank you for your trust, and we wish you a pleasant journey!
